Frequently asked
- Is MD5 still safe to use?
- No. MD5 is collision-broken and must not be used for signatures or password storage. It is offered because legacy equipment and checksum files still require it.
- How is HMAC different from a plain hash?
- HMAC mixes a secret key into the hash, so it proves both integrity and authenticity. It is what BGP TCP-MD5 and RADIUS use.
- Does the tool send my input to a server?
- No. Digests are computed with the browser WebCrypto API, and MD5 in local JavaScript. No network request is made.
